Botin 85 ‘Deep Blue’: Upgrading for Performance at the Highest Level

Launched in Valencia in 2020, the 85-foot racing yacht Deep Blue was designed by Botin Partners and built by King Marine to deliver a powerful balance of speed, responsiveness, and racing precision. Since then, she has proven herself on the international stage, competing successfully in inshore, coastal, and offshore regattas against some of the world’s best yachts. After years of competitive racing, the Deep Blue team set out to take performance a step further with a focused refit. Central to this upgrade was a complete renewal of the yacht’s lateral rigging. Having already relied on Carbo-Link’s CL SOLID forestay and CL HYBRID backstays, the team chose to expand the package with CL ELLIPSE carbon rigging, a natural progression in their pursuit of greater mast stability and control.

The project followed a clear and collaborative process: defining performance objectives, capturing precise rigging geometry, and developing a tailored engineering plan. All components, including custom prepreg carbon tapes and titanium fittings, were designed and produced in-house at Carbo-Link’s Zurich facility, ensuring accuracy and consistency from start to finish. Rigging delivery was accompanied by a detailed tune sheet, enabling immediate setup and fast dockside tuning ahead of sea trials. The results were quickly felt on the water. During sea trials, Deep Blue demonstrated improved mast stability and sharper responsiveness from tack to tack, confirming the value of the upgrade.

Carbo-Link is proud to support the Deep Blue team and thanks them for their trust and collaboration. We look forward to following their continued success on the international racing circuit.
