ABOUT

Creating the Future of Structural Performance

Carbo-Link is a Swiss-based advanced composite manufacturer that combines high-performance material science, cutting-edge design, and optimised manufacturing processes with a deep commitment to innovation. Our mission is to engineer and supply advanced CFRP systems that drive structural efficiency, reduce lifecycle impact, and redefine the performance standards of infrastructure across aerospace, industrial, marine, and civil sectors.

Founded in 2000 as a commercial spin-off from EMPA, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, Carbo-Link builds on a legacy of carbon fiber innovation dating back to 1978. With over four decades of foundational research and practical know-how in composite systems, we have pioneered the industrial application of CFRP in demanding environments.

We specialise in the design, engineering, and manufacture of lightweight composite tension members and bespoke CFRP structural components, specifically designed for high-load, high-performance applications. Our portfolio spans custom-engineered cables, tubes, and structural elements known for their exceptional stiffness, strength, and durability. Whether used in new construction or the rehabilitation of ageing infrastructure, Carbo-Link's CFRP solutions contribute to long-lasting, efficient, and more sustainable superstructures.

For more than 20 years, we've led key industry milestones—from delivering the first CFRP pendants to Liebherr in 2003 to supplying the Stadtbahnbrücke, the world's first railway bridge fully supported by CFRP cables. We are proud to be AS9100D Aerospace & Defence Certified since 2016 and Germanischer Lloyd's Certified, reinforcing our commitment to quality, reliability, and safety.

All design and engineering take place at our headquarters near Zurich, Switzerland, with manufacturing occurring across two state-of-the-art facilities, one located at our headquarters and the other in Bremen, Germany. Every process is subject to rigorous testing and quality controls, ensuring the precision and performance our global clients demand.

At Carbo-Link, we don't just meet expectations - we redefine what's structurally possible.

Carbo-Link’s headquarters are located just outside Zurich, Switzerland, and serve as the central hub for research, development, and innovation. This site houses the engineering, design, QMS, and project management teams, and is where the majority of Carbo-Link's products are manufactured.

The facility is equipped with advanced composite manufacturing and processing equipment, including:

  • 5-axis CNC machines for the precise machining of composite and metallic components

  • Automated Tape Laying (ATL) and Automated Fibre Placement (AFP) systems to enable accurate, repeatable composite layups for complex geometries

  • Autoclave processing, which ensures high-quality consolidation and curing of composite structures under elevated pressure and temperature conditions

  • CNC plotters are used for cutting composite prepregs and auxiliary materials with high accuracy

The Zurich facility is central to Carbo-Link’s ability to design and produce custom CFRP structural solutions for a range of applications, including aerospace, civil infrastructure, and marine industries.

Carbo-Link GmbH, located in Lemwerder near Bremen, Germany, represents a strategic expansion of Carbo-Link's manufacturing capabilities to support the production of larger-scale composite components. The facility is located in a former Airbus site, repurposed and optimised for the manufacture and assembly of large carbon structures, specifically masts, booms and spreaders for the marine industry.

Key capabilities of the Lemwerder site include:

  • A 72-meter autoclave, suitable for curing large composite parts such as carbon spars, masts, booms, and spreaders

  • 5-axis CNC machining for high-precision trimming, drilling, and shaping of large composite assemblies

  • CNC plotters for the accurate cutting of reinforcement materials used in layup processes

This facility enables Carbo-Link to meet the growing demands of large structural composite projects, especially in marine and aerospace applications.

AS9100D Aerospace & Defense Certified

As a supplier of primary structural components the adoption of the AS9100D quality management system lays the foundation for the consistent supply of products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and/or regulatory requirements. Adopting a universal quality system, implementing risk-orientated management processes, and striving for continuous improvement are fundamental strategic initiatives in improving quality, delivery performance and cost efficiencies at every level.

Product and process development at Carbo-Link follows this consistent quality management system from raw material acquisition and preparation through to manufacture and solution integration. Advanced engineering and manufacturing processes enable Carbo-Link to work within minimal tolerances on a zero-error principle. A tailor-made ERP system provides a seamless, secure and integrated module for traceability of all components through their life-cycle.

Quality Assurance
Both the Zurich and Lemwerder facilities operate under Carbo-Link’s unified quality management system, which is certified to AS9100D, the international standard for quality management in the aerospace and defence industries.
